Through an unlikely turn of events spanning over 25 years, this custom built 1995 Western Star truck is once again starting to serve her driver, albeit in a very unusual way. Instead of helping her driver deliver heavy loads across the country, she now serves as a symbol of health restored alongside her original owner, who like his truck, had seen his better days. Their incredible story tells how both man and machine had suffered the effects of years of abuse and neglect, and how each in their own way was nearing their end of life. The story recounts the events of this 25-year relationship between a man and his truck. It tells of the joyous day he picked her up at the factory, the sorrowful day she was sold off, and how through what some might call “divine intervention” were reunited through an act of charity…but for what purpose? As exciting as it was to have his truck back, she had been seriously neglected, torn down and broken, and was in no condition to drive. What then was the reason for her return? What purpose could she serve in her current state? Then one day it became clear -- she had been united with her original owner to become a symbol of hope to an industry desperately in need. Her transformation from a neglected wreck back to her original health and beauty would be chronicled and placed on display throughout the country. Her restoration would be tangible and something drivers could relate to. Her purpose would now be to serve as the ambassador of health to the trucking industry. Our 2023-24 Informational Program Tour needs help to put Barry and his beloved Western Star back on the road to deliver their message of health to drivers everywhere. We have the parts but not the funding.
Their message -- that man and machine are not so different after all. That even after years of abuse and neglect, health can be restored. Just as an engine and this truck can be rebuilt, so can the body.
